Who
are we?
The Jorviksippe is a small reenactment
group from Austria, who undertakes the effort to create an accurate display
of Anglo-Scandinavian Vikings from the mid 10th century.
We base all this on archeological finds, as well as on contemporary written
and pictorial evidences. According to this, we strive to constantly improve
our display, and there is no end of this development in sight.
Whether or not we meet this standard, lies in the eye of the beholder.
Constructive criticism is always appreciated.
Formation:
We emerged from the multi-period
Group Skarbrihhil during 2006, when we decided to focus our
research and displaying efforts on on specific time-period. At that time
we also shifted from choreographed show-fights to unscripted free-fights.
In 2007 we attended medieval markets in Austria (e.g.: Ehrenberg, Innsbruck)
and southern Germany (Castle Rabenstein, Cave Gladium and Castle Wäscherschloß).
A year later we were part of museum based events in Denmark (Trelleborg
and Moesgaard) as well as in the Netherlands (Archeon). Nevertheless we
also did some medieval markets in Dürrnkrut and Rabenstein.
In spring 2009 we joined with the international famous Brotherhood
of Jomsborg.
This altered our display a little, shifting it from Anglo-Scandinavian
townsfolk to Viking warriors under the command of various Scandinavian
kings.
What
we do:
One part of our display is craftsmanship
the other is the free-fighting.
We try to make as much of our equipment as possible ourselves. This includes
wood- and leather working (e.g.: pouches, shoes, protective equipment
), sewing, embroidery and silver-braiding.
We fight according to internationally
accepted rule systems like the Codex Belli, the Moesgaard-Rules
or the Huscarl-System.
This means that we do not choreograph or script our fights, but do semi-contact
martial arts with blunted steel replicas. Fairness and fun are the main
goal, winning is only a welcome bonus.
What
we're not!
First of all neither this group
nor homepage are a platform for spreading any political or religious ideologies,
and we distance ourselves from all these, nor are we a bunch of lunatics,
clubbing and hurting each other. We think of ourselves as martial artists
and would like to be seen as such.
